Grosmont and Whitby Writers’ Group
If you're a writer - aspiring or otherwise - in the Whitby area of North Yorkshire, you might be interested in
joining my writers' group. Originally based in Grosmont, having had 10 great years and 2 published anthologies of
our work, we are now relocating to Whitby.
Starting Monday 11th November, we will be meeting on the second Monday of each month, 7-9pm,
in Flowergate Hall, Whitby.
The idea of the group is that we support each other in developing our writing skills. It's extremely hard to know
how you are doing as a writer if you don't expose your work to an audience. I understand this can feel
intimidating, but it can also be a powerful way to hone your talent. If you're serious about writing, this might be
exactly the right next step for you!
I was a member of a writers' group in London for many years, and I found myself on a learning curve which led to
me first of all publishing my own books and then being a published children's author. This is why I wanted to start
my own group when I moved out of London. I love doing it, and I would also love to grow the group with new
members.
Don't be nervous! Our format is this: you can just sit and listen, and comment on other people's writing if you
wish, or, if you want feedback on your own writing, bring along something you've written (a chapter, an extract or
a poem, etc) and read it out. Members will give you their thoughts on what works and what could be improved. All
comments will be considerate and constructive. Our existing members are supportive and friendly, and I will
make sure the group continues in the same way as it grows.
You would be very welcome to come along and see what you think!
Every 2nd Monday, Flowergate Hall, 7-9pm
Attendance: £1
Bring a few pennies for tea and coffee. We will have facilities on-site.
How to find Flowergate Hall:
Flowergate Hall is down the alley shown in the image below, next to the United Reform Church on Flowergate.
The alley is on the left of the church, if you are standing on Flowergate facing the church. It is not the building on
the right hand side of the church. That's the Church House Centre. Don't make the mistake I made of going there
thinking it must be Flowergate Hall!
